Stone & natural pigments
Late 19th/early 20th century
Size: 24.5 x 15 cm.
A large stone churinga from the Arunta clan of the Central Australian desert. Present are the classic concentric and semi-circle designs on both sides. The graphs could possibly represent a campsite with people sitting round a fire, or another interpretation could be of a well or rockhole, which lay along an ancestral track across the land. An old example, still with most of its red ochre application.
